If you are yearning for a challenge and want to fundraise for the Clay School, consider gathering your friends together and climbing Mt. Kili as some dedicated donors did last October. Read all about it below:
A significant highlight of 2016 was the $73,800/£59,100 raised by PEI supporters for their trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Over a period of eight days, nine climbers ranging in ages from 22 to 73, covered over 70 kilometers or 45 miles. Seven made it to the summit, over 5,895 meters and 19,400 feet above sea level, touching the ‘Roof of Africa’ after ‘pole pole’ (slowly slowly) making their way. Summit day was a marathon…they left camp at 12:30am, summited at sunrise, then had a nearly 9 hour descent to base camp. The guides and porters of Summits Africa were coaching and cheering for the group every step of the way. It was a most intrepid and unforgettable adventure.
The next team is trekking in September 2018 and there will be another in February 2018. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Bob Wax, Chairman of the Board of PEI at 617.868.6166.
